For second chances, fresh starts and puppy days done right. Supportive, judgement-free training for dogs and the people who love them.

Mads’ Best Friend offers in-person training and behaviour support across South West London and parts of Surrey—including Richmond, Wimbledon, Putney, Chiswick, Chobham, Esher and Twickenham—as well as online sessions for dog owners all over the world.

Wherever you and your dog are, we’ve got you.

Some dogs need more than sit and stay. They need to feel understood. That’s where we start.

Emotion drives behaviour—that’s why we address the root causes, not just the symptoms.

At Mads' Best Friend, we nurture emotionally balanced, happy dogs. Our approach goes beyond obedience training — it's about building natural, positive, healthy behaviours that help dogs thrive in a humans world. By understanding each dog’s unique needs, we tailor our approach to suit both the dog and their human.

With years of experience, Maddie uses science-backed, positive training, to foster emotional well-being and confidence. The goal is to create secure, empowered dogs, while guiding owners to deepen their understanding, enjoy the training process, and feel the benefits in everyday life.

Rhi & Tobin

“Having a rescue is never linear or easy, but Maddie doesn't use a one size fits all approach. Her advice is tailored to you and your dog she's very good at making sure the sessions go at yours/your dogs pace. She was the perfect match for us and our ex-street dog Tobin, and with consistency and work I know our resilient little dog will lead the best life! The change in such a short period of time has been nothing short of incredible.”

What Clients Have To Say…

Mel & Sabai

“Maddie has helped us with both of our foreign rescue dogs and honestly we can’t recommend her enough. We’ve had one of our dogs for 8 years and it’s by far the quickest she’s ever taken to someone. Maddie has such a gentle approach, is so knowledgable and truly understands dogs. We feel so lucky to have found her after working with many trainers and behaviourists in the past where the fit wasn’t quite right.”

Georgina & Mila

“We wouldn’t hesitate to recommend Maddie. She has helped us hugely with our anxious working breed dog, who had some ingrained compulsive issues that we have been struggling to manage. We've learned a lot about how to proactively recognise and approach stressful situations. Our dog is a lot happier as a result of working with her, which has had a knock on effect for the entire family! We're really glad that we reached out when we did.”

FAQs

  • It all starts with a no-pressure, no-judgement chat. We’ll begin with a free 20-minute consultation to explore your dog’s needs, your goals, and whether we’re the right fit for each other. You’ll have the chance to ask questions, share any concerns, and find out how Mads’ Best Friend can help.

  • I offer set packages for behaviour support, training sessions, and puppy plans—each designed to suit different needs. After our free consultation call, I’ll recommend the option that best fits you and your dog.

No two dogs are the same, and behaviour isn’t one-size-fits-all, so the package I suggest will depend on what’s going on for your dog and what you’re hoping to achieve.

If you’re adopting or fostering a rescue, I offer a special discounted service to show appreciation for your choice to support rescue.

  • Behaviour support sessions run between 60–90 minutes, depending on what’s best for your dog.

Since every dog is different, we tailor each session to suit their needs — and sometimes that means finishing a little earlier if your dog’s had enough, or stretching a bit longer if your dog needs more time. Either way, we make sure the time is well spent and you both get the support you need.

Training and Puppy Plan sessions run for 1 hour.

  • Mads’ Best Friend is based in South West London, with in-person support available across nearby areas including Richmond, Wimbledon, Putney, Twickenham, Kew, Earlsfield and Hampton Hill. We also cover parts of Surrey like Chobham, Virginia Water and Esher.

If you’re a little further afield and think we’d be the right fit, feel free to get in touch- we may still be able to travel to you. A small travel fee applies for locations outside a 10-mile radius (more info available on enquiry).

And if you’re not local? No problem- online sessions are available wherever you are, so support is always within reach.

  • This is an important question- and the answer is no. At Mads’ Best Friend, we take a modern, evidence-based approach to behaviour and training.

Our focus is on reinforcing the behaviours we do want, rather than punishing the ones we don’t. This creates a happier, more effective learning environment for both dogs and their humans.

We’re completely judgment-free when it comes to methods you may have used in the past- what matters most is that you're here now, looking for the best way forward. Every dog deserves to learn without fear, and every owner deserves an approach they can feel good about using.

  • In short, training is about teaching your dog new skills or cues, like recall or loose lead walking. It’s the fun, practical stuff that helps everyday life run more smoothly.

Behaviour support goes a little deeper. It’s for dogs who are struggling with how they feel, not just what they do- like fear, anxiety, reactivity or compulsive behaviours. These sessions focus on emotional wellbeing and help you both work through the trickier stuff, at your dog’s pace.

Both are tailored to your dog, your goals, and your lifestyle- and we’ll help guide you toward the best fit during your consultation.

  • My Puppy Package offers a personalised, 1-2-1 approach that’s tailored specifically to you and your puppy’s unique needs.

Unlike group classes, which often cover general topics at a set pace, this package allows us to focus on the areas that matter most to you, in real-life environments. Whether it’s mastering lead walking, getting your puppy comfortable on public transport, or introducing them to new experiences like the groomer, we can work on what’s most relevant to your day-to-day life.

The real "secret" to puppy training is prevention: by getting the basics right early, we avoid the need for major "fixes" down the line. While it's not true that you can't teach an old dog new tricks, it’s far easier—and more effective—to set a solid foundation early, saving you time, heartache, and money in the future.

With ongoing support, flexibility, and a plan that’s uniquely suited to you and your puppy, this package provides a more supportive and less overwhelming way to raise a well-adjusted, confident dog.
